Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat- Hat
My biggest joys in life are my kids and reading.
I hope that someday my kids will say the same.
I am always looking for fun ways to make reading enjoyable
so in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday (March 2, 1904) I made a "reading" hat.
Start with red and white felt strips. Mine are 24" long and 3.5" high
Sew them together with a simple stitch
Fold it in half and sew the seam
To make the brim was a little trickier.
I had to stand the cylinder on a piece of paper,
trace the circle, then add a couple of inches
around it as if to draw a doughnut.
Then I used the paper as a pattern.
Follow the image above to see how it is sewn.
Here is our reading hat.
Perfect for a morning breakfast of green eggs and ham.
